“Not just a hat stand…”

- Jim Fowler 2022

Originally from London England, to New York via a few places in-between; myself, my wife Chelsea and our son Teddy are now settled in the picturesque suburb of Massapequa on Long Island. With a penchant for anything aesthetically pleasing or tactile, photography leant itself as a way to stay creative once I had left college. Having the luxury of such strong and passionate mentors in documentary photography helped me further appreciate the natural beauty that is caught “outside of the frame”. All of which I like to think guided me to the style I shoot in today.

Studio photos.

If it’s the consistency of fixed lighting and flat backdrops you are looking for then the studio space is the answer. Reach out and lets chat about the photos you see yourself being in.

I have been privileged to be mentored and supported through-out the last decade and a half by these amazing artists:

  • Amy Milstein

Amy is a Documentary Wedding, Family, Theatre and Life photographer. Originally haling from South Indiana Amy has lived in New York for over 25 years capturing photographs of the city that never sleeps whilst it wasn’t looking. Amy can often be found in Central Park shooting an impromptu elopement, an engagement shoot or even just photographing the photographers.

Influenced in her documentary/street style by some of the greats, Amy is also an avid photography historian and when she isn’t taking her own pictures she perusing and drawing inspiration from other peoples pictures in printed media.

  • Andrew French

Andrew is a portrait and lifestyle photographer based in New York City. He shoots editorial and commercial work, inspired by the signature look of his daylight studio in Union Square. Clients include Food & Wine, TIME, House & Garden, and Esquire, among others. Andrew's work is largely influenced by many of the photographers he assisted early in his career including Mary Ellen Mark, Ruth Orkin and Ilse Bing. Passionate about photography and the creative process, he enjoys teaching and sharing his knowledge. He teaches private photography and lighting workshops and is on the faculty at the International Center of Photography and New York University.

  • Ronan Gallagher

London-based filmmaker and photographer Ronan Gallagher moved to the UK from his native Ireland in 2009. Garnering acclaim for his documentary work from the outset, Ronan's first solo exhibition, 'Yatra' was held in 2010 and explored Indian subcultures. Ronan describes his process simply as “looking for the beauty in subjects that we usually walk past”. His preference for warm, low light bestows a feeling of richness onto the real. Ronan’s observant eye and warmth of vision is present in all his work, whether a personal documentary project or a high end fashion film.
